Since its inception in 1967, Christian Community Action’s (CCA) standard of practice has been to offer families support as they take steps toward self-sufficiency, permanent housing, and family stability.

CCA incorporated this approach into its Stepping Stone Transitional Housing Program, which it established in 1998 after the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded funding.

Stepping Stone, a 24-month long program, afforded heads of household the opportunity to outline and achieve goals, receive encouragement, take steps towards increasing their income, secure employment, and improve their quality of life. Throughout Stepping Stone’s 20 years of continuous operation, more than 80% of the heads of household served were able to find permanent housing and stable employment.

Unfortunately, Stepping Stone had to close its doors in 2018 due to a change in HUD's and the State of CT's funding priorities. Although this change left CCA with an empty building and no program or operational funding to continue services within it, CCA maintains its strong resolve to offer families the support needed to achieve a better future after their experiences with homelessness.

CCA has begun the Windows of Opportunity campaign in an effort to kick-start Stepping Stone’s future and raise the funds necessary to repair or replace 192 windows in the Stepping Stone building located at 660 Winchester Avenue, New Haven, CT. With the repair of these windows comes the opportunity to pursue a long-term partnership with the Housing Authority of New Haven that would reopen Stepping Stone’s doors to families seeking independence and a way forward.

This fundraiser, initially established as a GoFundMe campaign by Friends of CCA (https://www.gofundme.com/christian-community-action), will help CCA assist heads of household in finding employment, enrolling in school, addressing medical and mental health issues, securing permanent housing, and once again finding hope for the future.

With the generous support of an anonymous donor, CCA's Windows of Opportunity Campaign now has a matching donation pledge of $37,000! Donate today and double your impact!
